Consultant Update
We would like to remind members of the contractual position of Consultants who held permanent positions in the public health service of another EU member state immediately prior to taking up their current post in the Irish public health service.
Initially, those Consultants were considered to be ‘new entrants’ and subject to the relevant pay reductions. However, following a European Court of Justice ruling, the IMO took up this matter and had it conceded by the Department of Health that previous permanent experience in another EU member state’s health service was analogous to previous permanent employment within the Irish public service.
As such, Consultants who held a permanent appointment in another EU member state immediately prior to taking up their post in the Irish public health service, are not new entrants for pay purposes.
Should you be aware of a colleague who is in this position, please direct them to the IMO Member Advisory Unit and we can take up their case.
****Deadlines High Court Settlement****
We would like to remind members that the deadline for the submissions for non-litigating Consultants seeking to avail of the High Court Settlement is 14th September 2018.
Finally, an IMO rep will be present in Cork University Hospital on Thursday (23rd August) should you wish to discuss the High Court Settlement or other matters.
If you have any comments or queries in this regard, or wish to arrange to meet in CUH on 23rd August, please forward those to memberadvisoryunit@imo.ie.
