Career Breaks

In the recent Consultant Negotiations one of the key areas for the IMO was to address the treatment of those NCHDs who were unable to avail of a career break between 2012 and 2014, which negatively impacted their pension scheme membership. We also have been contacted by a number of members who were not made aware of their rights to apply for a career break in July 2014.

The Department of Health has now confirmed that they have instructed the HSE to review applications for those consultants who were not made aware of their entitlement to apply for such a break at that time.

The IMO are seeking further clarifications around this process, and more specifically its application to those who were not encompassed by the July 2014 circular, or who left the work in the  private sector as part of their training. You can access this Department of Health letter here.

If you think you are encompassed by this, please email consultants@imo.ie and we will discuss this with you.
